The distribution of palliative care to vulnerable people across the state is set to commence on Thursday, September 7, 2023, with each political ward getting 557 bags of 10 kg of rice. This formed part of the resolutions reached at the end of the committee’s meeting in the conference hall government house you where it also directed the refund of money to all those who have earlier paid. Briefing newsmen after its meeting, the Chairman Palliative coordination and distribution committee who doubles as the Secretary to the state government Barr Awwal Tukur said the need for the committee to reconvene and change modalities for the distribution was necessitated by the benevolence of the Governor. Barr Awwal Tukur noted that during the recent flag off of the distribution the Governor magnanimously directed that the rice should be given free to the vulnerable as against the committee’s decision to sell it at 50% subsidized rate. He disclosed that 55 trucks of 25kg rice,5 from the federal government and 50 acquired by the state government is being repackaged to 10kg for easy distribution. The Chairman stated that all the distribution committees at the local government levels have been reinforced and empowered to ensure the targeted beneficiaries are identified and captured. The committee, he further stated, has identified that a particular group should form part of the committee for equitable distribution, hence the allocation to religious, traditional, legislators, commissioners, schools, security, and other key players. For maize Barr Tukur revealed that out of the 150 trucks expected, only six were received, which will also be repackaged to 25kg to cover a larger number of beneficiaries.
