Her excellency Prof. Kaletapwa G Farauta deputy Governor Adamawa State in her address/remark during the last meeting of State Task force on Primary health care (STFPHC)commended the collective effort toward the various PHC activities carried out during the period under review and even beyond by the critical stakeholder. She Stressed that Indeed, this is an opportunity to serve our dear state for the public good.
Adding that, the NIPDs conduct, which was held in 3 rounds (October, November and December 2023) was successful. Adamawa recorded a coverage of 103%, 102% and 102% during the October, November and December rounds, respectively. For the purpose of emphasis, the last case of wild polio was reported in June 2016. Whence, after 3 years of no wild polio case reported, Nigeria was certified as wild polio-free in 2020. Today, Nigeria remains wild polio free.
However, for us to remain wild polio-free status, we must have a high coverage rate of routine immunizations as well as conduct periodic national immunization plus days (NIPDs) to build the needed immunity across all segments of the population. Addressing this still remain a major task ahead of us.
Secondly, she also commends the effort of all stakeholders for the success recorded in the Maternal Newborn and Child Health Week (MNCHW) held in December 2023. Worthy of mention, the MNCH week was a 5-days campaign (Monday-Friday), during which almost all key PHC interventions are provided to all eligible persons; mothers, pregnant women, children etc. Thus, the MNCH week has indeed, provided opportunity to increased coverages of our key PHC interventions. Records revealed it was successfully conducted. The top four interventions during the MNCHW recorded very high coverages; Vitamin A (90.4%, Deworming 90.6%, Micronutrient supplement 47.2% and Antimalaria (SP) 21.4%. which is also commendable.
On the other hand, she assures the commitment by the Administration of Governor Ahmadu Umaru Fintiri towards improving the health and well-being of the good people of Adamawa state.
The stakeholders at the meeting cut across executive Chairmen of the 21 LGA, Hon. Commissioners, Development partners, Traditional and religious leaders, heads of military and paramilitary, directors and technical officers of the health institutions in the state.
