GIZ-OXFAM GENDER PROGRAM LAUNCHED IN YOLA, ADAMAWA STATE. IN ATTENDANCE WERE THE ADAMAWA STATE PLANNING COMMISSION, MINISTRY OF WOMEN AFFAIRS, MINISTRY OF INFORMATION AND STRATEGY, FEDERAL MINISTRY OF WOMEN AFFAIRS, CRUDAN, OXFAM, NURU INTERNATIONAL AND OTHERS

On February 1, 2024, the launch event of the program “Promoting the Rights of Women and Improving Gender Equality through a Conflict-Sensitive Approach” was successfully held at the AUN Hotel Yola. The program is a collaborative effort between GIZ (Deutsche Gesellschaft für Internationale Zusammenarbeit) and Oxfam, aimed at addressing gender disparities and promoting women’s rights in conflict-affected areas. The event showcased the program’s objectives, strategies, and anticipated outcomes, emphasizing the importance of a conflict-sensitive approach to gender equality initiatives The launch event commenced with opening remarks from representatives of GIZ and Oxfam, highlighting the significance of addressing gender inequalities within conflict contexts. The introduction underscored the need for tailored interventions that not only empower women but also mitigate conflict dynamics and promote sustainable peace. The Executive Chairman Adamawa State Planning Commission, Dr. Mary Paninga declared the program open, while representatives of the Minister of Women Affairs, the Honorable Commissioners of Ministries of Women Affairs, Information and Strategies, other distinguished speakers from government, Community Leaders and civil societies delivered keynote addresses, emphasizing the intersectionality of gender, conflict, and development. The success of the program hinges upon strong partnerships and collaborations with local stakeholders, including government agencies (MDAs), community-based organizations (CSOs), and grassroots initiatives. GIZ and Oxfam underscored their commitment to fostering inclusive partnerships that amplify the voices of marginalized communities and ensure sustainable impact. The launch event of the program “Promoting the Rights of Women and Improving Gender Equality through a Conflict-Sensitive Approach” marked a significant milestone in the collective efforts to advance gender equality and peacebuilding in conflict-affected areas.
