THE 5TH LAKE CHAD BASIN GOVERNORS’ FORUM: ADVANCING PEACE AND DEVELOPMENT

News

The 5th Lake Chad Basin Governors’ Forum is currently taking place from January 29-31, 2025, in Borno State, Nigeria. This significant gathering brings together governors from Cameroon, Chad, Niger, and Nigeria, alongside regional and international partners, to discuss pathways toward sustainable peace and development in the region.

Theme:
“Rebuilding the Lake Chad Basin: Consolidating Gains, Commitment to Peace, Cross-Border Cooperation, Security, and Sustainable Development for a Resilient Community.”

The forum aims to evaluate progress under the Regional Strategy for Stabilization, Recovery, and Resilience (RS-SRR), which addresses the complex security, humanitarian, and development challenges facing the Lake Chad Basin.

Key Discussion Topics:

  • Reaffirming Commitment to Peace and Stability: Governors will recommit to fostering peace and stability.
  • Enhancing Cross-Border Cooperation: Exploration of strategies for better cooperation and coordination among member states.
  • Empowering Communities: Focus on supporting women-led and youth-led initiatives for sustainable development.
  • Preventing Violent Extremism: Strategies to combat violent extremism and drug trafficking in the region.

This year’s forum is hosted by the Yobe State Government in collaboration with the Lake Chad Basin Commission (LCBC), the African Union Commission (AUC), and the United Nations Development Programme (UNDP).

Notably, Adamawa NANGO (CACO) is fully represented in all aspects of the program.

Good News:
The DIMS will soon open registration for other CSOs to participate in the second phase of the LCBC-UNDP peacebuilding funding opportunities.

Warm regards
