With funding support from GIZ, OXFAM Nigeria, in collaboration with CRUDAN & CEPAD, implemented an 18-month project in Guyuk and Michika LGAs titled “Promoting the Rights of Women and Improving Gender Equality Through Conflict Sensitive Approaches (WoRGE Project). The WoRGE project was carried out in 13 wards (8 in Michika and 5 in Guyuk) and has significantly impacted both women and men through a series of stakeholder engagement and capacity-building workshops conducted in both LGAs.
Some of the achievements of the WoRGE Project include:
- Installation of 13 milling and de-husking machines in 13 wards of the project intervention to reduce time poverty among women and girls
- Influenced the development of two Gender Responsive Plans (one per LGA) to be integrated into the State and LGA Budget
- Capacity building and sensitization on gender sensitivity have been provided to traditional leaders, state and LGA staff, community members, and community-based organizations through a series of training sessions, advocacy efforts, and television and radio programs.
The event was honored by numerous dignitaries, including the Deputy Governor of Adamawa State, the Honourable Commissioners of the Ministries of Women Affairs, Transport, Finance, Budget and Economic Planning, the Executive Chairman of the Adamawa State Planning Commission, Traditional Leaders from Guyuk and Michika LGAs, and the Heads of GIZ, OXFAM Nigeria, JRS, NURU Nigeria, CRUDAN, and CEPAD.
Highlights of the event include presenting an award of excellence to the executive Governor of Adamawa State and religious and Traditional leaders from the LGAs where the Project is implemented.
There was also a panel discussion on the sustainability of the project.
