2020 IMPACT OF ACTIVITIES OF DONOR PARTNERS IN ADAMAWA STATE.

Adamawa State Planning Commission has expressed strong commitment to, and declared as a matter of high priority efforts to monitor and evaluate progress towards the attainment of donor partners annual work plan budget justification. The score card provides valuable information on the situation of development partners (International, National and Local NGOs) in Adamawa State, and is intended to, a large extent, document efforts made by these partners in adding value to Adamawa State as a whole.  An estimated amount of N7.57B and 306,000Euro were invested in various projects carried out by the Development partners in Adamawa State over the last 24 Months (details in ASPC office).

INTERNATIONAL NON-GOVERNMENTAL ORGANISATIONS:

i. UNFPA in Adamawa State supports maternal health through the provision of family planning kits, HIV commodities and Psychosocial Support (PSS) to traumatized survivors. Established forensic laboratory in federal University of Technology Yola to medically and legally analyse conclusively and also vindicate GBV victims with appropriate sanctions on GBV perpetrators. Hope centre constructed in specialist hospital for treatment, counselling and shelter of Gender based violence (GBV) survivals. One stop centre for treatment, counselling and shelter of GBV survivors.

ii. UNICEF supports Nutrition, immunization, Child mortality, Psychosocial Support (PSS).

iii. Christoffel Blinden Mission (CBM) engages in Eye health, Mental health and. Psychosocial Support (PSS).

i. NURU Nigeria intervened in Food security in Michika through the provision of farming inputs, Livestock fattening and extension services to farmers to improve farming activities.

i. European Union and UNICEF support in the provision of quality and safe drinking water, engaged in waste management system and provision of hand washing facilities to promote good hygiene in Jada and Guyuk LGAs.

ii. Human capital development: UNFPA, UNICEF and International Rescue Committee (IRC) supported the training of health personnel (Doctors/Nurses) to improve service delivery in the health sectors and teachers to improve professionalism in the educational sector and provide instructional materials to aid learning processes.

iii. Educational Sector: UNICEF targeted girls and boys in humanitarian situations and provided psycho-social support, including access to child friendly spaces with intersectoral programming interventions. Jesuit Refugee Service Engaged in Training of 162 teachers on accelerated learning and conducted accelerated learning program for 4,000 children to build their numeracy and literacy skills.

iv. Peace and conflict resolution: British Council builds connections, understanding and trust between people and Communities through art and culture, Education, Community Peace and Safety Partnership in Hong, Michika, Mubi North, Mubi South LGAs.

v. Gender Based Violence: UNFPA, UNICEF and Spot Light Initiative are responding to all forms of violence against women and girls/boys with particular focus on domestic and family violence, sexual/gender-based violence and harmful practices, early child marriage, trafficking in human beings and sexual and economic exploitation, Psycho-social counseling, economic violence and political violence.

vi. Livelihood: UNFPA purchased and distributed sewing machines to IDPs in Malkohi camp.

NATIONAL NON-GOVERNMENTAL ORGANISATIONS:

Clear View Integrity Conducted LGA level Wash Clinic for both Fufore and Mubi-South LGAs, 100 adolescent girls stepped down their Sexual Reproductive Health Right training each to 5 others of their peers leading to a total of 100 adolescent girls reached with SRHR messages. One Women and Girls Safe Space (WGSS) was constructed, equipped and commissioned by the UNFPA Resident Country Representative at Adamawa State Polytechnic. Pro-Health International intervened in the HIV Aid prevention, prevention of mother to child transmission.
  2. Global Women for Quality and Sustainable Development Initiative are into women and youth empowerment, combating HIV Aid/TB, reproductive health, malaria, Advocate for counselling care and support for people leaving with HIV Aid in Edo, Delta and Adamawa State.

Neem Foundation provided Psycho-social support to survivals in humanitarian setting in Adamawa and Borno States respectively.

iv. Atiku Institute for Development to Strengthen Education in Northeast Nigeria States (SENSE) Activity is a USAID-funded initiative designed to improve the educational outcomes of 200,000 primary school children across Adamawa and Gombe States.

v. Women Economic Emancipation Initiative (WEEI) is another local NGO that is aimed at Strengthening the economic base of Women and Youth by removing economic or social impediments affecting them through; Sensitization programmes on effects of HIV, Drug abuse, Child Labour, etc. Conducts Skills and entrepreneurial development programs for women and youth engaged in small businesses. So far, trained 150 women and youth in Moringa Tea processing, hand crofts and sensitization in drug abuse, child labour and Covid-19 protocol.

i. Laka Cultural Development Association Campaign against Rape and Gender based violence.

ii. Baitul Hikma Walulum Foundation participated in 16 days of activism to end violence against women and girls, Sensitization on GBV & Distribution of Dignity Kits to Women & Girls in partnership with Najma Peace & Unity Initiative.

iii. Connecting Gender for Development Advocacy visits to Hakimi Yola, and CAN Chair to solicit his support for the fight against rape, as some Maijimilas and Mai-An-gwas are found to always interfere with justice on rape cases.

8NURU NIGERIA DEVELOPMENT INITIATIVE LTD BY GUARANTY-Registration: Enrolment of new households and Orientation of 14 males’ farmers’ association into Nuru Nigeria’s program

-Ag. Inputs: Provision of crop inputs package (soybeans and groundnut seeds, fertilizer, muriate of potash, inoculants and fungicides) 1,000 farmers through 52 farmer associations (6,000 direct beneficiaries) for 2020 season.

-Livestock fattening (small ruminant) Pilot ram fattening program as part of livelihood diversification for more income, we worked with four (4) female farmers’ associations.


-Food security and nutrition: through provision of about 4,800 fluted pumpkin seedlings, 8,000 tomatoes seedlings and 1,000 eggplants were distributed as perma-garden package to enhance household nutrition.

-Capacity development: on good agronomic practices, livestock husbandry practices, leadership, group dynamics, micro enterprise development and financial management.

-Financial inclusion: group loans and savings via the use of mobile money system. Where farmers were able to access about NGN 1,300,000 as loans and saved about NGN 1,800,000 in 2020.

-Social cohesion: building trust among group members and households for the common goal.

-Scaled to two (2) wards: Added 2 wards for intervention, conducted community sensitization and registered additional 1,500 farmers.

The listed activities which commenced since 2019 was funded by German Cooperation through CBM International, and implemented by our implementing partner JPRM. The activities have attained 80% completion and it’s currently ongoing, it will be ending in December 2021. So far, 6 solar powered boreholes were constructed and 7 hand pump boreholes were rehabilitated reaching a total of 39,500 beneficiaries.




The eye health component which also started in 2019, have made significant impact in the lives of people in Adamawa State, and so far COCIN implementing partner was able to conduct eye surgeries for a total of 198 beneficiaries, and health facilities in Ghella, Garkida, Gombi and general hospital Mubi were renovated and equipped with pre and post-operative drugs, furniture’s and eye surgery equipment’s.




The mental health components also attained a remarkable height through the creation of awareness on mental health services and training of CHEWS, Doctors, Nurses and Data managers on mental health service delivery. Training was also conducted for drug dispensers on DRF and services is currently ongoing through the use of furniture’s and drugs supplied to the 4 health facilities.

17ATIKU INSTITUTE FOR DEVELOPMENT (AID)SENSE
The Strengthening Education in Northeast Nigeria States (SENSE) Activity is a USAID-funded initiative designed to improve the educational outcomes of 200,000 primary school children across Adamawa and Gombe States. The activity will provide targeted interventions at the state, school, and community levels with a view of improving the managerial capacity of 100 education managers; and improving the teaching skills of 5,000 teachers, which will ultimately improve the learning outcomes of 200,000 children by the year 2022. In addition, the Activity will strengthen existing community networks such as School Based Management Committees (SBMC) and Parent-Teacher Associations (PTA) to create awareness of equitable education opportunities for all.


BRSA
The project is being funded by European Union and the German Federal Ministry for Economic Cooperation and Development and being implemented by Atiku institute for Development (AID) of American University of Nigeria (AUN) and GIZ. It supports the strengthening of resilience of agriculture-related coping mechanisms of 900 farmers (IDPs, returnees and host and return community members) in Mubi North, Mubi South and Maiha LGAs in Adamawa State, North-East Nigeria with livelihoods capacities to alleviate the impact of the insurgency in affected communities.
The intervention started in August 2018 and runs up to March 2020 with high possibility of extension. Three communities were selected from each of the local government with 100 farmers in each of the targeted community. The intervention is being implemented in collaboration with the Ministry of Agriculture, Adamawa State Agricultural Development Project (AADP), and other key stakeholders including the respective local government authorities of Maiha, Mubi North and Mubi South.


Feed and Read:
The Atiku Institute for Development (AID) of American University of Nigeria (AUN), has been implementing the Feed and Read program since 2016. The program provides a meal a day in addition to basic literacy and numeracy classes, homework support, clothing and hygiene education as well as life skills to Almajiris boys and homework support to vulnerable school girls.

Friends of Nigeria, (FON) has been our major funder since 2018 to date. FON has again provided support for the 2021 intake and with additional funding from AUN and AID. The 2021 program will have a home work support component for girls.
The 2021 program enrols 25 Almajiri boys and 30 vulnerable girls for the six months of the program.

18JANNA HEALTH FOUNDATION (JHF)Community DRTB care project:
JHF is implementing a Community DR-TB Care project in Adamawa state, in collaboration with the Association for Reproductive and Family Health (ARFH). This project is funded by the Global Fund through ARFH and aims to ensure prompt access of DR-TB cases to high quality, patient-centered diagnosis, treatment and follow-up services thus, contributing to improved treatment outcomes and reduction in DR-TB transmission in Nigeria.

FG/Global Fund Nomads TB Project: JHF is implementing the above project in collaboration with the National TB and Leprosy Control Programme (NTBLCP). The project is funded by the Global Fund through NTBLCP and is implemented in 17 LGAs in Adamawa States. Nomadic communities, grazing reserves and resting points are targeted with Active TB Case Finding.




Wave 8 TB REACH Project (Patent Medicine Vendors (PMV) and Traditional Healers (TH):
This project is implemented in 2 LGAs in Adamawa and another 2 in Yobe through 2 consortium partners including JHF. The project targets communities with Active TB case finding through PMVs and THs.

21CONNECTING GENDER FOR DEVELOPMENT (COGEN)Advocacy visits to: Hakimi Yola, and CAN Chair. (Nov. 2020)
To solicit his support for the fight against rape, as some Maijimilas and Mai-An-gwas interfere with justice on rape cases.
Results:
- Hakimi promised that henceforth, any of them that interfered, would lose their seat.
- CAN elections interfered with the visit, although the CAN Chair had welcomed the visit.
COGEN Staff is a founding member of ACAR.

A Live ACAR Conference (18 Aug, 2020)
The conference was held live to Commemorate 1 year of Anniversary of the Adamawa Coalition Against Rape (ACAR), because of COVID 19 Regulations. The highlights of discussion at the event were for ACAR to re-strategize to reduce or end rape in Adamawa; registration of ACAR with CAC and selection of Board Members for ACAR. Following this meeting COGEN Staff (and other members of the Coalition) was nominated as one of the ACAR Board Members.

Protest Against Rape (18 Sept., 2020)
COGEN-ACAR held a protest Against Rape in Adamawa. The march held at the state capital, urging the state government to take decisive action against rape. The coalition mentioned that promises previously made by the government the previous year (18th Sept. 2019) had failed.

Launch of Anti-Rape Club at Aliyu Musdafa College, Yola. (25th Nov. 2020)
The launch of the anti-rape club in school was to sensitize students to speak against rape and take actions to prevent rape, in their school and at home. This was to mark the International Say of Elimination of Violence Against Women. The management of the school were happy with the COGEN-ACAR initiative.
