ADAMAWA GOVT APPROVES  N762M FOR ELECTRICITY PROJECT, VEHICLE

The Adamawa State Executive Council has approved the sum of N598 million for the rerouting of electricity supply from Wuro Nyanka in Shelleng Local Government Area to Borrong in Demsa Local Government Area.

The State Commissioner for Information and Strategy, Mr. James Iliya, disclosed this while briefing journalists after the council meeting presided over by Governor Ahmadu Umaru Fintiri on Wednesday.

According to Iliya, the project is expected to be completed within three months and will provide Borrong community with an alternative electricity supply route through transmission towers from Wuro Nyanka, eliminating the need to cross the River Benue.

The commissioner also revealed that the council approved the procurement of a vehicle for the Ministry of Environment at the cost of N164 million, with the contract awarded to Triacta Nigeria Limited for delivery within three months.

Speaking further, the Commissioner for Rural Infrastructure and Community Development, Mr. Solomon Titus, explained that the existing electricity towers have posed persistent challenges to power supply in Borrong over the years.

He noted that flooding of the River Benue often weakens and erodes the tower located on a small island at the center of the river, leading to frequent collapses and disruptions in electricity supply.

Titus added that the government’s decision to reroute the electricity line is aimed at providing a lasting and economically viable solution to the problem.
