ADAMAWA STATE GOVERNMENT COMMENCES STATEWIDE INSPECTION OF PRIVATE HEALTH FACILITIES

The Adamawa State Government, through the Ministry of Health and Human Services, has commenced a statewide inspection of private health facilities to strengthen healthcare regulation, enforce compliance with established standards and improve the quality and safety of healthcare services across the state.
The exercise is aimed at assessing the operational status of private hospitals, clinics, maternity centres, diagnostic facilities and other healthcare establishments to ensure they operate in accordance with approved guidelines, licensing requirements and applicable health regulations.
The inspection teams will examine facility registration and licensing, qualifications of healthcare personnel, availability and functionality of medical equipment, sanitation, infection prevention and control measures, medical waste management, patient safety and the general quality of services rendered to the public.
As part of the exercise, the Ministry will identify unregistered facilities, expired or invalid operating licences, engagement of unqualified personnel, inadequate infrastructure, unsafe clinical practices and other violations that may compromise the health and safety of patients.
The Ministry has emphasised that appropriate enforcement measures will be taken against facilities found to be operating in violation of applicable laws, regulations and established standards.
Depending on the nature and severity of the violations, enforcement actions may include the issuance of compliance notices, directives for corrective action within specified timelines, follow-up inspections, referral of professional misconduct to relevant regulatory bodies, and the imposition of applicable administrative or legal sanctions.
Facilities operating without the required registration or licence, or those found to pose serious and immediate risks to patients, may face suspension of operations, sealing or closure, where authorised by law and following the applicable regulatory procedures.
In cases involving serious professional misconduct, negligence, fraudulent practices or other suspected offences, the Ministry may refer the matter to the appropriate professional regulatory authorities or law enforcement agencies for further investigation and necessary action.
The Ministry has reiterated that the objective of the inspection is not only to identify violations but also to ensure that private healthcare providers take responsibility for maintaining acceptable standards of practice. Facilities with correctable deficiencies will be expected to implement the required improvements within the timelines stipulated by the relevant authorities.
Private health facility owners and operators across Adamawa State are therefore urged to cooperate fully with inspection teams, provide accurate documentation, facilitate access to their premises and ensure that their establishments comply with all applicable requirements.
The Ministry also encourages members of the public to report suspected illegal healthcare operations and unsafe practices to the appropriate authorities to support efforts to protect patients and improve healthcare delivery.
The statewide inspection forms part of the Adamawa State Government’s broader commitment to strengthening health-sector oversight, promoting accountability and ensuring that all healthcare facilities, regardless of ownership, provide safe, effective and quality services to residents.
The Ministry assures the public that regulatory oversight will continue in accordance with applicable laws and standards, with the ultimate goal of safeguarding lives and improving healthcare outcomes across the state.
