The Governor of Adamawa State, Rt. Hon. Ahmadu Umaru Fintiri, has officially flagged off the rebuilding of the Numan Zonal Library, reaffirming his administration’s commitment to strengthening educational infrastructure and promoting a culture of reading, learning, and research across the state.

The flag-off ceremony, held at the Numan Zonal Library site in Numan, attracted government officials, traditional rulers, education stakeholders, community leaders, development partners, and members of the public. The event marked another milestone in the state’s efforts to revitalise knowledge institutions and provide modern learning facilities for present and future generations.

Representing Governor Fintiri at the ceremony, the Deputy Governor, Professor Kaletapwa George Farauta, performed the groundbreaking and unveiled the project on behalf of the Governor. She conveyed the Governor’s directive that the project must be completed within six months and executed strictly according to approved specifications and standards.

Governor Fintiri warned contractors against delays and substandard work, stressing that his administration would not tolerate any act capable of compromising quality or timely delivery of government projects.

According to the Governor, every project initiated by his administration must be completed for the benefit of the people, noting that the government remains committed to fulfilling all promises made to the citizens of Adamawa State.

The Governor observed that the reading culture remains a critical component of societal development and intellectual advancement. He explained that the reconstruction of the library is intended not only to restore the facility but also to transform it into a modern centre for learning, research, innovation, and digital knowledge acquisition.

He called on stakeholders, community leaders, and education sector officials to closely monitor the project to ensure compliance with approved standards and specifications throughout the construction period.

Governor Fintiri further highlighted the enormous investments his administration has made in the education sector, including the construction and renovation of schools, establishment of model schools, development of science and technical education facilities, and the provision of improved learning environments across the state. He urged the people of Numan and neighbouring communities to take full advantage of these opportunities to advance education and human development.

Earlier in his remarks, the Chairman of the Adamawa State Library Board, Dr. Akeweta Emmanuel JP, traced the history of the Numan Zonal Library and highlighted its strategic role in promoting literacy, education, and lifelong learning in the state. He noted that the facility had suffered years of deterioration, limiting its ability to effectively serve students, teachers, researchers, and the general public.

Dr. Samaila expressed appreciation to Governor Fintiri for approving the reconstruction of the library as part of the administration’s broader agenda of revitalising educational infrastructure. He explained that upon completion, the facility would provide a conducive environment for reading, research, knowledge sharing, and digital learning.

“The strength of every society is measured largely by the quality of its educational institutions and the knowledge available to its citizens. Libraries remain indispensable centres for learning, innovation, and national development,” he stated.

Also speaking at the occasion, the Permanent Secretary, Ministry of Education and Human Capital Development, Hajia Aisha Umar, described the project as a significant investment in the future of the state’s educational system. She emphasised that educational development remains the foundation for economic growth, social progress, and sustainable development.

Goodwill messages were delivered by stakeholders and community representatives who commended Governor Fintiri’s administration for its remarkable achievements in the education sector. They noted that the reconstruction of the Numan Zonal Library would further strengthen teaching, learning, scholarship, and intellectual growth within the region.

One of the stakeholders, Mrs. Irene Ahmadu, expressed gratitude to the Deputy Governor for her support and commitment towards bringing the project to Numan. She described the reconstruction of the library as a landmark development that would benefit students, youths, researchers, and the wider community.

The project consultant subsequently presented the project brief, outlining the scope of work and implementation schedule. According to the presentation, the new library will have a seating capacity of approximately 150 readers and will incorporate modern facilities designed to support contemporary learning and research needs.

The highpoint of the ceremony was the official unveiling of the project signage and the turning of the sod by the Deputy Governor on behalf of Governor Ahmadu Umaru Fintiri, signalling the formal commencement of construction work. This was followed by an inspection of the project site and group photographs with dignitaries and stakeholders.

The rebuilding of the Numan Zonal Library is expected to significantly improve access to educational resources, promote reading culture, encourage research activities, and serve as a modern knowledge hub for Numan Zone and the state at large.

The project further demonstrates the unwavering commitment of the Fintiri administration to Revitalising Knowledge Infrastructure for Educational Development, transformation and human capital development as critical pillars for sustainable growth and prosperity in Adamawa State.
