Governor of Adamawa State, Rt. Hon. Ahmadu Umaru Fintiri, has reaffirmed his administration’s commitment to providing reliable electricity to unserved and underserved communities through sustainable renewable energy initiatives.
On Tuesday, the Governor performed the groundbreaking for several hybrid solar mini-grid projects in Michika and commissioned the completed Shuwa Solar Mini-Grid Project in Madagali Local Government Area, marking another milestone in the state’s drive to improve energy access and accelerate rural development.
Speaking during the groundbreaking ceremony in Michika, Governor Fintiri flagged off the construction of hybrid solar mini-grid projects for the communities of Michika, Madagali, Bazza, and Muchalla.
The Governor recalled that when his administration assumed office in 2019, many communities in northern Adamawa were still recovering from the devastating effects of insurgency, which destroyed electricity infrastructure alongside other critical public facilities. Although electricity was later restored through the national grid, recurring attacks on transmission infrastructure made it necessary to pursue a more resilient and sustainable energy solution.
He explained that through strategic collaboration with the Rural Electrification Agency (REA), the state attracted investment that secured the approval of about 40 solar mini-grid projects across Adamawa. According to him, the projects will provide reliable electricity to households, businesses, schools, and healthcare facilities, while creating employment opportunities and stimulating economic growth.
Governor Fintiri expressed appreciation to President Bola Ahmed Tinubu for implementing policies that encourage investment in renewable energy. He also commended A4&T Nigeria Limited for partnering with the Adamawa State Government to expand access to clean and reliable electricity.
Later in Shuwa, Madagali Local Government Area, the Governor commissioned the completed Shuwa Solar Mini-Grid Project and flagged off additional mini-grid projects for Gulak, Kwakwaah, Kuva Gaya, Daksami, and Dirdiu communities across Madagali, Hong, and Ganye Local Government Areas.
He noted that the projects are in line with his administration’s vision of expanding critical infrastructure and improving the quality of life in rural communities. Governor Fintiri urged the contractors to deliver quality projects within the agreed timelines and encouraged them to engage local labour to create employment opportunities for host communities.
In his welcome address at the Michika ceremony, the Commissioner for Works and Energy Development, Hon. Engr. Mohammed Suleiman (FNICE, FNSE), described the event as another significant milestone in the state’s renewable energy programme.
He disclosed that the projects comprise the 3.6MW Michika Hybrid Solar Mini-Grid, 665kW Bazza Mini-Grid, 1.8MW Madagali Mini-Grid, and the 525kW Muchalla Isolated Hybrid Solar Mini-Grid in Gombi Local Government Area.
According to the Commissioner, the projects represent more than electricity infrastructure—they symbolize the restoration of hope, economic opportunities, and prosperity for communities that have endured years of hardship due to insurgency.
Speaking at the commissioning ceremony in Shuwa, Hon. Suleiman said the Fintiri administration is bringing dependable electricity closer to the people, unlocking opportunities for business growth, improved healthcare, quality education, agriculture, and small-scale industries in communities that have long been deprived of such essential services.
He further revealed that the projects commissioned and flagged off include the 315kWp Shuwa Mini-Grid, the 2.5MW Gulak Mini-Grid, the 265kWp Kwakwaah Mini-Grid, the 216kWp Kuva Gaya Mini-Grid, the 170kWp Daksami Mini-Grid, and the 142kWp Dirdiu Isolated Solar Mini-Grid.
Also speaking at the events, the Managing Director of the Rural Electrification Agency (REA), Mr. Abba Abubakar Aliyu, commended Governor Fintiri for his visionary leadership and unwavering commitment to addressing electricity challenges across Adamawa State through sustainable energy solutions.
The paramount rulers of Michika and Madagali, His Royal Majesty Prof. Bulus Luka Gadiga and Dr. Ali Dan Buram, expressed appreciation to the Governor for the projects, noting that reliable electricity would significantly enhance commercial activities, healthcare services, education, and the overall standard of living in their communities.
The solar mini-grid projects form part of the Adamawa State Government’s broader strategy to promote clean energy, strengthen rural infrastructure, and stimulate inclusive socio-economic development across the state.
