GOVERNOR FINTIRI FLAGS OFF SOLAR MINI-GRID PROJECT FOR THREE ADAMAWA COMMUNITIES (KOFARE, MBAMBA, SAMINAKA)

Governor Ahmadu Umaru Fintiri has flagged off the installation of hybrid interconnected solar mini grids for Kofare, Mbamba, and Saminaka communities in Adamawa State, marking a major step toward expanding access to reliable and sustainable electricity.
Speaking during the groundbreaking ceremony, Governor Fintiri described the project as the first major interconnected solar hybrid mini grid to serve the three communities. He said the initiative would improve electricity supply, stimulate economic activities, enhance healthcare and education services, and improve the overall quality of life of residents.
The Governor explained that the project is part of his administration’s commitment to promoting renewable energy and attracting private sector investment into the electricity sector. He recalled that the initiative followed discussions with the Rural Electrification Agency (REA) and renewable energy investors during the Empowering Adamawa: Unlocking Private Sector Opportunities in Distributed Renewable Energy roundtable held in Abuja in 2025.
The Commissioner for Works and Energy Development, Hon. Engr. Mohammed, described the project as a strategic investment that would provide reliable, affordable, and environmentally friendly electricity to households, schools, healthcare facilities, agricultural enterprises, and small businesses. He added that several streets and government facilities across Adamawa have already been powered by solar energy under Governor Fintiri’s administration.
Also speaking, the Minister of Power, Hon. Joseph Olusunkanmi Tegbe, commended President Bola Ahmed Tinubu for supporting efforts to expand electricity access nationwide and praised Governor Fintiri for creating the enabling environment that made the project possible.
Managing Director of the Rural Electrification Agency, Mr. Abba Abubakar Aliyu, appreciated the Adamawa State Government for partnering with the agency. He urged residents of the benefiting communities to promptly pay for electricity services to ensure the sustainability and expansion of the solar mini-grid programme.
The Director of Mahashakti, Mr. Kennedy Nnagha, thanked Governor Fintiri for encouraging private sector participation and assured residents of the company’s commitment to delivering reliable and quality electricity services.
The ceremony ended with colourful cultural displays, songs, and dances as community members celebrated the project and expressed appreciation to Governor Fintiri for his administration’s development initiatives.
