GOVERNOR FINTIRI’S COMMITMENT TO WORLD BANK’S BESDA PROGRAMME

Governor Ahmadu Umaru Fintiri of Adamawa State reiterated his administration’s dedication to the Better Education Service Delivery for All (BESDA) programme, a World Bank initiative focused on enhancing education outcomes in the state. This commitment was expressed during a meeting with a World Bank delegation at the Government House in Yola.

Governor Fintiri affirmed his intention to maintain collaboration with the World Bank to improve education in Adamawa State, highlighting the significance of transparency and accountability in executing the BESDA programme.
The Governor called for a more equitable allocation of funds, pointing out that insecurity has posed challenges for the state, resulting in damage to schools and infrastructure.- The World Bank team, led by Senior Economist Mr. Shin Nomura, acknowledged the progress made under the BESDA-AF and TESTA programs but emphasized the necessity for faster implementation to secure lasting outcomes before the programme wraps up in October 2026.- The World Bank announced plans to launch the HOPE Education Program, which will build on insights gained from current BESDA activities.- The World Bank should take into account Adamawa State’s request for fairer funding, given its specific challenges.- The state government should accelerate the execution of ongoing projects to optimize benefits prior to the conclusion of the programme.

The meeting highlighted both the Adamawa State government’s and the World Bank’s commitment to advancing educational outcomes in the state. With the introduction of the HOPE Education Program, there is an opportunity for further improvements in providing quality education access for children in Adamawa.
