ADAMAWA STATE PLANNING COMMISSION, IN COLLABORATION WITH UNICEF, ORGANIZED A TWO-DAY CAPACITY-BUILDING WORKSHOP .

The Adamawa State Planning Commission, in collaboration with UNICEF, organized a two-day capacity-building workshop for members of the Local Government Committee on Food and Nutrition (LGCFN) in Adamawa State.
The workshop, held from 11th to 12th March 2026 at Mope Hotel, aimed at strengthening the knowledge and capacity of local government stakeholders to address food and nutrition challenges across the state.
The programme commenced with registration and opening prayers, followed by a welcome address delivered by the Permanent Secretary of the Adamawa State Planning Commission, who also represented the Executive Chairman of the Commission. In his remarks, he presented the objectives and overview of the meeting, emphasizing the importance of coordinated action in tackling malnutrition and improving food security at the local government level.
The workshop brought together representatives from eight Local Government Areas, including Numan, Shelleng, Lamurde, Toungo, Jada, Ganye, Demsa and Guyuk.
During the goodwill session, representatives from the Ministry of Local Government Affairs and UNICEF highlighted the need for stronger collaboration between government institutions and development partners to improve nutrition outcomes, particularly for women and children.
A key presentation by the State Nutrition Officer examined the nutrition situation in Adamawa State and the existing funding gaps, drawing attention to the urgent need for increased investment in nutrition-related programmes.
Participants were also taken through sessions on the Basic Nutrition Package, the Adamawa State Strategic Plan of Action on Food and Nutrition, and an overview of the Adamawa State Food and Nutrition Policy. These sessions provided participants with practical guidance on implementing nutrition interventions at the local government level.
The workshop included interactive discussions and question-and-answer sessions, enabling participants to share experiences and propose strategies for improving nutrition service delivery within their respective local government areas.
The first day concluded with a review of key lessons and participant reflections, followed by announcements outlining activities scheduled for the second day of the workshop.
The initiative is expected to strengthen coordination among local government actors and support ongoing efforts to reduce malnutrition and improve the nutritional wellbeing of communities across Adamawa State.
