A high-powered delegation from Kwara State has commenced a five-day technical learning tour in Adamawa State as part of efforts to strengthen inter-state collaboration and improve reproductive, maternal, and primary healthcare delivery in Nigeria.
The study visit, which is being conducted under the 2026 Annual Work Plan of the United Nations Population Fund, is taking place at the One Stop Centre of UNFPA, Adamawa State Planning Commission and various MDA, the visits is expected to run from May 11th to May 15th, 2026.
The delegation is led by Dr. Gloria Enueze and comprises technical officials from the Kwara State Ministry of Planning and Economic Development, Ministry of Health, and Ministry of Women Affairs. The visit is designed to facilitate knowledge sharing, institutional learning, and the exchange of best practices in healthcare planning, reproductive health coordination, and social service delivery.
Welcoming the delegation on behalf of the Adamawa State Planning Commission, the Executive Chairman of the Commission, Dr. Mary Panninga, described the learning tour as timely and strategic, noting that Adamawa State remains committed to partnerships that promote sustainable healthcare systems and human development.
Dr. Panninga emphasized that the visit reflects the growing recognition of Adamawa State’s longstanding collaboration with UNFPA and the successes recorded through integrated healthcare interventions, particularly in reproductive health, maternal care, gender-based violence response services, and primary healthcare development.
She further assured the visiting delegation of the Commission’s full support throughout the duration of the tour and expressed optimism that the engagement would deepen institutional cooperation between both states.
Also receiving the delegation were officials of the Adamawa State Ministry of Health, including the Acting Commissioner and the Permanent Secretary of the Ministry, Pharm. Zira Bubanani, who welcomed the visitors and reaffirmed the ministry’s commitment to advancing quality healthcare services and strengthening reproductive health programmes in collaboration with development partners.
The Chairman of the Adamawa State Primary Health Care Development Agency, Dr. Bashir Suleiman, commended the initiative and noted that peer learning among states remains a critical tool for improving healthcare systems, policy implementation, and service delivery outcomes.
In his remarks, the UNFPA Adamawa State Project Coordinator, Dr. Danladi Idrisa, highlighted the importance of collaboration between UNFPA-supported states, stressing that technical exchanges and institutional partnerships are essential for achieving national healthcare goals.
According to him, Adamawa State’s experience in implementing integrated reproductive health and primary healthcare programmes has continued to attract interest from other states seeking to strengthen their systems and improve outcomes for women, children, and vulnerable populations.
The delegation is expected to engage in a series of technical sessions, stakeholder meetings, field assessments, and interactive engagements with relevant ministries, departments, agencies, and healthcare institutions during the visit. Areas of focus include reproductive health services, maternal and child healthcare, family planning, healthcare coordination frameworks, gender-responsive programming, and sustainable healthcare partnerships.
The learning tour is also aimed at fostering stronger institutional relationships between both states while creating opportunities for policy innovation, capacity building, and the adoption of proven healthcare strategies.
Present at the reception ceremony were Permanent Secretaries from relevant ministries, directors, senior government officials, healthcare professionals, and representatives of partner organisations working within the health sector.
The initiative is expected to further consolidate the partnership between Kwara State and Adamawa State while contributing to national efforts geared towards improving healthcare delivery, reproductive health outcomes, and sustainable development across Nigeria.
